Biography
Dr. William Brown moved to Detroit in 1783 and practiced medicine there. His practice included the provision of medical care for Indigenous people. He was one of the last trustees of the town of Detroit at its incorporation as a city in 1802. Brown co-organized the Bank of Michigan in 1818, was a trustee of University of Michigan in 1821, and served in the legislature in 1828 and 1830. Indigenous people tried to give him land at an 1807 treaty but were told it was illegal.
