Pierre Godfroy, known as "Le Prince," carried on with his brother James the fur empire established by their father Gabriel. He played a pivotal negotiating role in the removal of the Potawatomi from Michigan. According to legend, Pierre once won a bet by paddling a wheelbarrow across the Detroit River. In 1836, Pierre Godfroy, Charles Noble, James H. Forsyth, Benjamin Kercheval and others established the Gibraltar and Flat Rock Company, a town site and canal development company. He was a member of the Godfroy kinship group.
