Biography
Robert A. ​Forsyth was Chicago's first school teacher. He served in the War of 1812 as a cadet, then became the long-time secretary to Michigan Territorial Governor Lewis Cass. In 1821, he accompanied Cass on an expedition to locate mineral deposits and the headwaters of the Mississippi River. Forsyth and his family received tens of thousands of dollars in payments at treaty signings.​​​ He was a member of the Cass/Kinzie kinship group.​​
