Biography
​Duncan C​ampbell graduated from Chapel Hill in 1807 and became principal of a female academy in Washington, Georgia. He studied law under Judge John Griffith, who ​​upon retirement gave Campbell his lucrative law practice. Campbell became clerk of the circuit court, and was a longtime state legislator. In 1818, he purchased land and built a plantation known as Fontainbleau.
