Biography
Samuel ​​Mitchell was appointed US agent for the Chickasaw and Choctaw in 1796, working from headquarters in Choctaw Nation. He married Molly Folsom, a half sister of Choctaw leader David Folsom and daughter of US treaty signer Nathaniel Folsom. In 1799, Mitchell was fired by Mississippi Territory Governor​ Winthrop Sargent, who thought him "a knave and a fool." In 1801, Mitchell was appointed Chickasaw agent, and became first US agent to live among Chickasaw.
