Biography
​George ​Kennerly came to St. Louis at the start of the War of 1812, where he was appointed a lieutenant in the army. He accompanied his brother-in-law, William Clark, in a military expedition to Prairie du Chien during the War. At the close of hostilities, Kennerly was mustered out of the service. He maintained a business partnership with his brother for the next several decades, including serving as sutler to multiple military regiments. He was a member of the Chouteau/Clark kinship group.​
