Biography
John ​Johnston was a participant in Anthony Wayne's military campaign in the Northwest Territory during the early 1790s. In 1802, he was appointed to organize the US Indian agency at Fort Wayne, where he served as an Indian agent for thirty years. He also worked as a merchant​ in partnership with Judge John Creigh. In 1803 or 1804, he b​ought a quarter section of land near the Native village of Piqua, Ohio. He helped found Kenyon College, and was brought out of retirement to help negotiate a Wyandot land cession treaty in the 1840s.
