Biography
​Nathaniel W. Howell graduated fro​m Princeton in 1788 and by 1794 was operating a law practice in New York City a​​nd Tioga County. In 1796, he moved to Canandaigua, New York, and practiced law there for the next fifty-five years, working for prominent clients such as the Holland Land Company. From 1799 to 1802, he was the attorney general for western New York. He was a member of the New York General Assembly in 1803-1804; a US Representative from 1813 to 1815; and a county judge from 1819 to 1832.​​​ For information on his family connections, see his family tree (in "more families") using the link below.
